Introduction About Maria Montessori :

Dr. Montessori philosophy brought forth to the world that education is not acquiring of academic and intellectual excellence. Indeed the aim of education is to create holistic individual, capable of fulfilling the cosmic duty and it can only be done by helping the children to achieve independence of spirit on ever ascending levels. it was in the early 1900's that ever lasting peace can be established only by a society that is child centric and humble enough to recognize the true status of the child as the alpha and omega factor in the sustenance of social and cultural systems existing in the world.

A philosopher scientist and pedagogue, Dr.Maria Montessori became the first woman in Italy to receive a medical degree in the early 1900's, she earned great laurels in the fields of medicine, psychiatrist, anthropology & scientific pedagogy & was also nominated three times for the Noble peace prize. In 1907 she started the first house of children ( casa 'de 'Bambini ) at san Lorenzo in Rome.

In 1929 she founded the Association Montessori Internationale in Amsterdam to maintain and propagate her life's work and her philosophy. Thus AMI remains the authentic and worldwide authority on the application and study of the Montessori pedagogy. Towards the realization of a peaceful human civilization, as envisioned by Dr Montessori AMI has launched the 'Education is Frontiers' programme.Between 1939 & 1947 Dr.Montessori conducted 16 batches of Montessori training courses in India, thus laying a strong foundation for the Montessori movement before her demise in 1952, her dream continues to live through the work of many determined and committed Montessorians & individuals belonging to all walks of life.

Importance of Montessori Education :

No doubt, modern education needs a holistic approach in teaching. During the pre-independence years of India 1937-41 a school teacher has inspired a little boy in Rameswaram to reach for the stars. When he taught his class how the birds fly, he took his students to the seagull.
